What is a Noise Risk Assessment?

A noise risk assessment is designed to protect those working in excessively noisy environments by assessing exposure, identifying those affected, and implementing initiatives to minimise risk.

If your workplace is prone to loud tools, equipment or environment, then you will require a Noise Risk Assessment in accordance with the Noise at Work Regulations 2005.

Does My Workplace Need A Noise Risk Assessment?

To establish whether you need to assess the risk of noise in your workplace, you will need to consider how loud the noise is and how long employees are exposed to it. For example, using loud machinery such as a power drill or chainsaw for a few hours every day is going to require a noise risk assessment. Whereas, playing a radio quietly on the work premises isn't going to be hazardous.

Excessive, loud noise is where the risk lies because it can cause temporary or permanent hearing loss. This may not always occur immediately but after a few years of consistent exposure, it will lead to a gradual decline in hearing.

If your workplace is prone to loud tools, equipment or environment, then you will require a Noise Risk Assessment in accordance with the Noise at Work Regulations 2005.

It is your duty as an employer to assess all workplace hazards and that include noise, so a risk assessment must be carried out to reduce exposure and protect your employees as much as possible.

Our professional safety practitioners can make the whole process easier for you by creating your bespoke noise risk assessment documentation.

For our consultants to complete your documentation, we will need you to provide us with the details of the noise levels generated by the tools and equipment, and the duration of exposure.
